Sweet Potatoes... Savory or Sweet?

As the Thanksgiving holidays approach there are certain unwritten expectations in our home. A puzzle will be on the table, the parade on the TV, adults will be in the kitchen together, and children will want to be in their pajamas all day. There are also expectations for what we'll eat during that time. Traditionally, some will expect to see a sweet potato casserole on our holiday table. I'm not in love with the marshmallow type, so we compromise with Ina Garten's Smashed Sweet Potatoes. The orange juice really makes the flavors pop! I've toyed with trying her Savory Sweet Potato Crumble as a nod to the traditional sweet recipes, but the jury is still out as to how well that would be received.

In the meantime, I'm experimenting with a few savory recipes for everyday use. The Thyme and Parmesan Roasted Sweet Potatoes from Sprouted Kitchen look easy enough for a weekday night. It's scaled for two people which would be perfect for the three us of living at home. Also, Chef John's Loaded Twice-Baked Sweet Potatoes can be made over the weekend and cooked quickly later in the week.
