Our Lenten Journey - Introduction - An Invitation to a Holy Lent

On Ash Wednesday, we began our Lenten journey with these words:

“I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to the observance of a holy Lent: by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and alms-giving; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.”

As we journey through Lent together, intentionally cultivating the habit of allowing the grace of God to satisfy our spiritual hunger, let us explore these disciplines of self-examination, prayer, fasting, alms giving, and reading and meditating on God’s holy Word as ways of understanding our spiritual hunger and turning to God for satisfaction.

We will structure our journey by exploring each discipline individually. We will allow a passage of Scripture to invite us into the discipline. A brief reflection will orient us and bridge the context between the Scriptural setting and our contemporary context. Finally, we will consider a way of putting the discipline into practice.

We hope that you will join us on this Lenten Journey.
