Invitation and Preparation
O God, make speed to save us
O Lord, make haste to help us
(Silence)
Let us pray:
Blessed are you, sovereign Lord, God of our ancestors: to you be praise and glory for ever. You called the patriarchs to live by the light of faith and to journey in the hope of your promised fulfillment. May we be obedient to your call and be ready and watchful to receive your Christ, a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; for you are our light and our salvation. Amen.
Listen and Receive
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Genesis 12:1-3
May the Word of God rest gently on our hearts, that when our hearts break the Word of God may flow in.
(Silence)
Reflect and Respond
God speaks to Abram and disrupts his comfort with a call to step out in faith. God invites Abram to participate in the Great Story. Abram must choose between the comfortable life that he is enjoying in Haran and the difficult journey to a distant land, a land unknown and unspoken, a journey of faith into the promised blessing of God.
God may not be calling us to found nations, but He does still call us to walk in faith, stepping out of our comfort and into the Great Story.
I wonder, how might God be calling you in this season to live by the light of faith and journey in hope? In what ways are you resisting? In what ways are you following?
Blessed and Sent
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.
In this season of light, may your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
